A very cute 'buckle' styled antique Georgian era Lace or 'fichu' pin, used as a decorative device to fasten the small lace shawl around the shoulders and neck. Backed in darkened Silver, pins such as this were one of the most ubiquitous of jewels, the very petiteness adding a touch of prettiness to the most practical of clothing. This piece dates to around the 1790's or so and features faceted Paste 'gems' which were immensely fashionable at the time. Measures just over 1cm by 2cm and fastens with the traditional clasp.
